A ‘hole’ is required in any dwelling to allow exit and entry. Since time
began there have been different methods used to close this hole; to gain privacy,
stop draughts and seek some kind of protection and security.

One of the first was to roll a stone across the entrance a la the
Flintstones. Later on, animal skins would have been draped across the entrance, then
rough wooden doors were created.

We have come a long way since then of course. Doors can now be very
sophisticated indeed and are required to meet ever increasing demands.

They need to be maintenance-free; able to deter forced entry, remain
attractive in appearance, and may have bespoke features to meet customers individual
requirements.

Timber doors can and do fulfil some of these requirements; but they do
require considerable maintenance, can be costly to produce, and delivery times can
be lengthy. Standard doors from ‘shed’ suppliers are cheap, but not very
cheerful.
