X = The Variable

We launched System-X, our revolutionary PAS23/24 - SBD Complient composite door at Glassex 2002.

Having researched the market, we identified a niche opportunity, a door that can be installed into several doorframe systems, hence the name System "X".

System-X is a true composite door. Each side is clad in up to seven shades of White PVC-u or GRP in Red, Blue or Green and many RAL colours. Customers can specify a mix of these (e.g. Red outside, white inside)

Underneath this tough exterior lies an internal construction with an high performance core.

Glazed System-X doors normally comprise two sheets of 4mm toughened glass, with obscure glass as an option on the internal layer. The thickness of the sealed unit would be dependent on the overall thickness of the sub-frame specified. System-X meets PartL and had been designed to use a 24mm unit when a 70mm depth sub-frame is used.

Other 'composite' door companies have concentrated on New-Build and Council markets, but offer very little for small to medium fabricators or installation only companies.

Nick Lake, Head of Communications says "Over the past 15 years our company has undergone a revolution and now finds itself in a leading role as one of the UK's largest fabricators of PVCu door panels. It was from this position that we launched System-X to our existing customers. Our supporting team has a wealth of talent that was applied to manufacturing and marketing this exciting new product, this coupled with higher consumer expectations, has lead to greater then expected sales volume".

To accommodate the composite production DP Plastics Group increased their space giving them around 80,000sq ft across two buildings. The investment in this product has been considerable. Major items of manufacturing machinery have been purchased and installed, A new vacuum-forming machine for the production of composite doors costing some £80,000 was installed. This unit is capable of producing 300 door skins per shift. Two CNC three-dimensional CAD/CAM routing machines each costing around £75,000 have been installed. Both of these machines are involved in the pre-production of System-X. A recently installed CNC Machining centre has also been added at a cost of £115,000. Total Investment top's over a million pounds.

The System-X range

Any of the standard range of DP Plastics Group glass effects can be applied to System-X. For maximum security the door is fitted with three Hinges and an Ultra High Performance Deadbolt / Hook lock. Other door furniture is available plus Scotia Letter-Plates.
